Swiss Chicken is arguably my husband’s all-time favorite meal. It’s one of the few recipes he knows by heart.
Unfortunately, I have a terrible memory so I wanted to write it down somewhere with easy access and figured I’d share this goodness with the world while I was at it.
Swiss Chicken is a simple meal but is full of flavor that the whole family will enjoy!
This also makes fantastic leftovers so you can continue enjoying it for the next few days.
How To Make Swiss Chicken
First, you’ll start by preparing your chicken. For Swiss Chicken, you can use chicken tenders or chicken breasts. I prefer to use chicken breasts because that’s what we keep on hand and tenders are more annoying to prepare.
*Tip: Hate pulling out chicken tendons? Check out this hack for doing it quickly! SERIOUSLY, it’s LIFE CHANGING!
If you’re using breasts just cut the breasts into 1/4 inch slices to resemble tendon sizes.
Once your chicken is prepped you’ll want to brown it on a frying pan. While you’re browning it season it generously with Lemon Pepper – this makes the biggest difference so don’t skimp! This is the lemon pepper we use. You can order it on Amazon or find it at Walmart and Costco.
Once your chicken pieces are browned add them to a 9×13 baking dish.
Top the chicken with 8 slices of swiss cheese so your pan is covered in one layer of cheese.
In a mixing bowl mix together two cans of cream of chicken soup and two can fulls of milk. We like plenty of sauce so this ratio works well for us. If you aren’t as much of a sauce person you could use just one can. Pour this mixture over your chicken.
If you’d like, top the dish with another layer of swiss cheese.
Bake at 350 F for 20-30 minutes until it bubbles and starts to turn golden brown.
Serve over rice.
How To Make Swiss Chicken In A Crockpot
Sometimes I want to make swiss chicken but I don’t have the time to prep it and I just want it to be ready when we get home from work. My husband also tends to avoid the chicken and just eat the sauce, so by making it in the crockpot and shredding the meat I sneak more protein into him lol.
To make this in the crockpot is easy.
Just place your chicken (fresh or frozen) in your crockpot. No need to brown it ahead of time.
Then sprinkle a generous amount of lemon pepper on top of the chicken.
Next, layer your chicken with sliced swiss cheese.
Pour the mixture of cream of chicken soup and milk on top.
Add an additional layer of swiss cheese if you like.
Then cook on High for 3-4 hours or Low for 6-8 hours.
When you’re ready to eat you can shred the chicken or serve it in larger pieces over rice.
When it comes to crockpots I’m super picky. I searched high and low for a crockpot that would allow me to program a specific time and automatically switch to low. We both work full time so I wanted it to be able to cook for the desired length and then just hold at warm until we got home. Here’s a link to the one I finally found if you have the same struggles.
Make It Keto Or Gluten Free
Keto: To make this recipe keto just substitute rice for cauliflower rice or omit it altogether.
Gluten-Free: Just make sure your cream of chicken soup is gluten-free.
