Planning meals with chronic acid reflux can be a minefield. But there are plenty of tasty, filling breakfasts you can enjoy that won’t cause any acid reflux!
Along with choosing acid reflux-friendly foods, you may want to consider trying some version of intermittent fasting or just eating later in the morning if you aren’t hungry first thing in the morning.
The concept of intermittent fasting is giving your body a longer break from eating to allow it to properly digest. For acid reflux, this can look like eating breakfast at 7 am and then dinner at 7 pm and no late-night snacks. That gives your body a 12-hour break from eating in order to digest.
Of course, this doesn’t work for everyone. But if you find you aren’t really hungry in the morning and can wait till mid-morning to eat then give it a shot. I typically don’t eat breakfast until 9 or 10 am and finish with dinner by 8 pm. I find that I feel less bloated and experience less acid reflux when I do that. However, there are mornings where I wake up hungry so I’ll eat closer to 8 am and that’s totally ok! Listen to your body and do what feels best for you!

Acid Reflux Friendly Breakfast Ideas
Basic eggs with sourdough toast
A simple breakfast of eggs and toast is easy on your acid reflux (given that eggs aren’t your trigger food, they rarely are but it’s still possible). If you make your eggs with milk try skipping that. Whole wheat or sourdough will be the best options for acid reflux. You can also add half an avocado for some healthy fats.
Whole Wheat English Muffins
These English muffins are so easy to make and great to keep in the freezer for whenever you need them. I’ll add some jam to them or use them to make some avocado toast!
Oat flour pumpkin muffins
I love making muffins that I can freeze and have on hand for a quick morning breakfast. Oat flour muffins are so soothing for acid reflux and these pumpkin muffins are so moist and fluffy!
Overnight oats
Overnight oats are also really great for grab-and-go breakfasts and you can prep the whole week ahead of time if you’d like! Here’s a bunch of flavors you can choose from that will be gentle on your acid reflux.
Breakfast burritos
A breakfast burrito with eggs, hash browns, avocado, and a little bit of cheese if you can handle it makes a yummy, filling breakfast! Make them fresh or prep them ahead of time and wrap them in tin foil to store in the freezer for an easy breakfast.
