Slippery elm is by far the best natural supplement for acid reflux.
When I started to ease myself off of antacids and let my body heal, slippery elm was the best supplement I could find that worked really quickly to relieve the pain.
What is Slippery Elm?
Slippery Elm Bark is a soothing herb that comes from the inner bark of the slippery elm tree.
I know, it sounds kinda weird but trust me – it’s magic for heartburn and acid reflux.
Slippery Elm has been known to help with coughs and throat issues as well as gut issues and indigestion.
Does Slippery Elm Help Acid Reflux?
Yes! Slippery Elm is my go-to supplement when I have an acid reflux flare-up.
It works as quickly as an antacid but it does so much more than those chalk chews. Slippery Elm actually works to soothe the lining of your stomach and intestines to reduce irritation and prevent future flare-ups.
How To Take Slippery Elm For Acid Reflux?
I typically take a capsule or two of Slippery Elm when my acid reflux pain starts to come. You know that uncomfortable feeling as the heat starts to build and you know it’s coming? Yeah, that’s when I take them.
Try not to take it on an empty stomach, however, I have in the past they haven’t bothered my stomach.
When Should I Take Slippery Elm For Acid Reflux?
I typically just take slippery elm on demand when I need it.
But please note that you should take it 2 hours before or after other medications just to make sure it doesn’t interfere with those.
If you get acid reflux at night you can take them before bed.
How Long Does It Take For Slippery Elm To Work For Acid Reflux?
For me, slippery elm kicks in really quickly – just like taking an antacid or heartburn chew.
The effects of slippery elm typically last 30-60 mins for most people. This is usually enough time to let your stomach calm down so you don’t continue to feel the pain. However, if you have chronic acid reflux you may need to take an additional capsule after about an hour.
Where To Buy Slippery Elm?
I prefer to use the Slippery Elm capsules because they are nice to keep in your bag or car for when you need them. Here are the ones I order on Amazon:
